The purpose of the National Maternal and Child Oral Health Resource Center (OHRC) is to respond to the needs of states and communities in addressing current and emerging public oral health issues. OHRC supports health professionals, program administrators, educators, policymakers, and others with the goal of improving oral health services for infants, children, adolescents, and their families. The resource center collaborates with federal, state, and local agencies; national and state organizations and associations; and foundations to gather, develop, and share quality and valued information and materials.

I worked with a small team to redesign the existing site, incorporating a streamlined database and search engine, updating the graphical feel, and improving navigation and the user experience. Some of the new features include feedback forms and the ability to create custom bibliographies from your search results.

The Center translates research in healthy mental development into materials tailored to the needs of each of the target audiences, and makes them available on this website. In addition, the Center serves as an online “Community of Learners” a clearinghouse for the exchange of ideas through traditional and new media.

This site was a web version of earlier developed materials. I worked as part of a team to create the design, which encompasses a static, information section; tutorials with question and answer sections; and a customized search engine for for Social Emotional Screening Tools.

The O’Neill Institute is a joint project of the Law Center and School of Nursing and Health Studies and also draws upon the University’s other intellectual resources, including the School of Medicine, the Public Policy Institute, and the Kennedy Institute of Ethics.

My duties were to redesign the existing site from the ground up, integrating multiple existing databases and creating an informative hub for public health law information.

Google Maps – DC Metro

Map created to show the Metro lines in Washington, DC. I built this because, while the simplified map is nice, is doesn’t really give you a feel for how the lines are actually laid out geographically within the city.

Flash VR Effect 2.0

I have had a chance to mess around some more with the earlier VR effect I had posted. Since then, the powers of the universe have granted me access to Flash CS3 and thus, AS 3. You can see this new, uber powerful code being put to use on this very site! Check it out!

This differs from the original VR file in many ways. Take it away, bullet list!

Rebuilt using AS 3
Preloader
Rotation is now controlled by holding the mouse down and moving left or right rather than just moving to the left or right. This allows you to “pause” the VR by letting go of the mouse.
The speed can be controlled by changing a variable in the fla (dragSpeed; frame 2, line 2).

I am planning some more updates to this file in the future, including: loading from an XML, y-scrolling, and zooming. Joy!

Cryptic Characters

I designed and laid out the booklet, tray card, and label for the forthcoming CD from Silver Cypher, Cryptic Characters. The images were done in Photoshop and the layout was done in InDesign.

Capital Cardiovascular Conference 2009

It’s time again for the Capital Cardiovascular Conference, or C3. C3 is an annual opportunity for interventional cardiologists, interventional radiologists and vascular surgeons to come together and experience high-level education demonstrating advanced coronary, peripheral, and carotid interventions, as well as other technical issues, led by the most experienced operators from Europe, Asia and North America.

In 2008 I designed the original setup for the conference. There were some minor updates to the design, mostly involving layout and lighting. I took this opportunity to see how much my skills in 3D Max have improved over the last year. I feel I now have much more control over lighting and rendering, which can quickly be seen by comparing these renders to those from 2008.

NASA’s Digital Learning Network

The goal of NASA’s Digital Learning Network is to enhance NASA’s capability to deliver unique content by linking customers with one or more NASA Centers in an integrated fashion.

The team at Scecon developed this conceptual set which was later built out and used for several years. Another member of the team designed, modeled, and lit this structure. I worked on the textures, renderings, and post production of the imagery.
